Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. –Genesis 1:26–27, esv
When I was a child, I was so confused concerning the issue of evolution. I just couldn’t imagine that I evolved from a monkey. It didn’t make any sense to me. And since I had bright red hair, it came to reason that I probably evolved from a big, hairy orangutang. I’m sure my big brother had something to do with planting that seed in my mind. I was super blessed to learn years later that the word for brother in Bulgarian (the country I was a missionary in) was brat.
But as I grew and read God’s Word, I discovered (much to my delight) that I was created in the image of God. Not from some monkey, not from some orangutang, but God! When you really think about it—that’s mind blowing.
The enemy of our souls wants to fool you and me into believing that we are simply a result of some cosmic game of chance. Why? Because if we believe that, then our lives would not be of worth. And maybe, just maybe, you and I would live our lives by chance and not by purpose.
What would be the result? Or lack thereof?
Imagine what you can become when you step into the truth that you are created in the image of God. Imagine what you can become when you embrace the truth that He has a plan for your life (see Jeremiah 29:11) and a call of what you are to be busy about (see Ephesians 4:1). Imagine what impact your life would have in eternity.
Remember, there is an enemy of your soul who will do everything in his power to block you from becoming all that God created you to be. Well, that is if you let him.
